Naoto Shimoda is a Deputy Director-General in Payment and Settlement Systems Department of Bank of Japan. He leads initiatives of modernizing payments using new technologies and exploring policy implications of AI in finance. He represents the Bank in various international fora, including the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures, BIS and central banks CBDC coalition, FSB financial innovation network. Since he joined the Bank in 1992, he has also served as Head of Division for Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, Chief Representative for APAC region, and a Director for International Financial Affairs at Japan’s Ministry of Finance. He studied law at Hitotsubashi University and computer science at Harvard University.
