Karmela Holtgreve was appointed Deputy Head of the BIS Innovation Hub and Head of Operations in July 2024.
Karmela had an early career in financial journalism before transitioning into public affairs then strategy and innovation. Before joining the BIS she was Director General Strategy and Innovation at Bundesbank where she was responsible for the overall transformation of the institution and for leading a team of 60 across three main departments: innovation, transformation and portfolio and strategy. She holds a diploma degree in political science at Goethe University Frankfurt and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with a focus on International Relations and European politics.
