Sam Hinton-Smith

Sam is Head of International Public Policy at Stripe, the financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies — from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups — use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Sam leads a team of policy professionals across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Asia-Pacific Region, who work to ensure that the needs of the online economy are reflected in public policy developments. He is a policy professional with 25 years experience across the financial services and retail sectors. Prior to joining Stripe in 2019, he held senior roles at one of Europe’s largest banks and an Asia-based investment bank. Sam is a member of the Payments Board of UK Finance, and the Financial Stability Board’s Legal, Regulatory & Supervisory Taskforce. He previously served on the European Central Bank’s Market Advisory Group on a Digital Euro.
