Mari-Liis Kukk is head of the Innovation Department at the Estonian Financial Supervision and Resolution Authority (Finantsinspektsioon). She also leads the work of the authority’s Innovation Hub and Regulatory Sandbox, which are aimed at helping FinTech companies to understand how their solution may fit the regulatory environment. She is a member of several EU-level working groups that deal with financial innovation, including ESMA’s Digital Finance Standing Committee. She has a PhD in Economics and Finance from Tallinn University of Technology and her academic research focuses on the role of FinTechs in building a novel financial sector. She has co-authored three editions of the Estonian FinTech Report.

Decoding Digital Assets and Payments
Tokenisation of real world assets (RWAs) offers transformative potential, and is expected to impact both financial services and the broader economy. However, despite this promise of potential, most RWA tokenisation projects are still in the pilot or experimental phase. Integrating tokenised RWAs into the mainstream economic and financial system also presents regulatory challenges, particularly in consumer protection, financial stability, and compliance. In this panel discussion, we bring together regulators, policymakers, and industry participants to discuss frameworks to support the commercial and institutional adoption of RWA tokenisation.
