Michele Lanotte is deputy head of the Retail Instruments and Services Directorate of Bank of Italy, which promotes the digital development of financial markets. In 2021 he was appointed operational director of Milano Hub, the innovation center of the Bank of Italy.
Prior to joining this Directorate, he held various roles, as a policy-maker, taking on positions of increasing responsibility in the Banca d’Italia and becoming Head of International Regulation in the Regulation and Macroprudential Analysis Directorate. Before that, he worked as policy officer at the European Commission in the Directorate General for Competition where he was a member of the “Task Force on Financial Crisis”, set up in the aftermath of the great financial crisis.
Over the years, he has been a member of several Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), European Commission and European Banking Authority (EBA) and Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) groups. He has published articles and essays on the topics he has dealt with, and has been a speaker at numerous conferences.
